DRC is one of the largest countries in Africa and one of the most mineral rich. The DRC mining industry is a significant factor in the world's production of cobalt, copper, diamond, tantalum, tin, as well as gold. It holds the world's largest reserves of coltan and significant quantities of the world's cobalt.
Besides the capital Kinshasa, the two next largest cities Lubumbashi and Mbuji-Mayi are both mining oriented, with the Katanga region where Lubumbashi is situated being the most prosperous region.
DRC’s largest export is raw minerals, with China accepting over 50% of DRC's exports in 2012.
POW has a close relationship with Madini Minerals (www.madiniminerals.com), which has a strong network of contacts and knowledge of cobalt exploration projects particularly in the Katanga Province of the DRC, the world’s primary jurisdiction for the metal’s production. This is in large part due to Serge Ngandu, who is also a partner in Madini.
Serge is a DRC national as well as a highly qualified and experienced metallurgist who has evaluated multiple cobalt exploration assets that the Board believe are highly prospective and have the right address. He gives the Company a distinct advantage in the right address. Serge is President of POW’s local DRC operating company ABM Kobald SAS.
